Past Productions and co-productions of Visual Statement include:

Glasgow Through the Glass (1990)

This contemporary dance production celebrated Visual Statement’s tenth anniversary and was performed at Glasgow’s Cultural Festival in December 1990. Based on Glasgow’s architectural heritage it celebrated the craftsmen who built Glasgow’s physical image. It was an innovative theatrical experience involving dance, costume and lighting to highlight the development of Glasgow as seen through glass in architecture and every day life.

The Thistle And The Rose (2003)

Visual Statement’s creative director, Danny Dobbie, produced, directed and choreographed, “The Thistle And The Rose” to coincide with the World Rose and Festival, Glasgow 2003. This enchanting contemporary ballet commissioned by Trade House, Glasgow was based on the famous poem by William Dunbar, who was commissioned by James IV of Scotland to write a celebration to mark his marriage to Margaret Tudor of England and the subsequence Union of Crowns. Visual Statement interpret this piece of Scottish history with music composed by William Jackson and narrated by Professor Ted Cowan through a unique combination of dance, music and poetry.

Anti Vandalism Initative (2003 - Onwards)

This production was devised by Danny Dobbie and in partnership with Strathclyde Police and local primary schools in the Greater Eaterhouse area. This drama showcase highlights the issues faced by young people today from vandalism to anti-social behaviour and set’s out not only to raise awareness but to educate young school children as well. As a direct result of the drama production Strathclyde Police noticed a marked reduction in vandalism throughout the Greater Easterhouse area.

Spirit (2004 - 05)

Spirit - Visual Statement’s original modern ballet first performed to local audiences as part of Doors Open Day and Festival Day in 2004 and also was performed at the Royal Concert Hall as part of The Fair Trade Experience in 2005. Spirit was a completely original modern ballet piece produced, directed and choreographed by Danny Dobbie. It was inspired by the Testimony of Chief Seattle, published in 1887 which speaks “Transformation Through Change” .

“Nearly 150 years ago Chief Seattle, a respected and peaceful leader of one of the Northwest Indian Nations , delivered a compelling message to the government in Washington who wanted to buy his people’s land. He believed that all life on earth, and the earth itself, is sacred, and that man’s heedless abuse of native will lead to its destruction. Essentially it was a powerful plea for conservation.”

The Spirit of the Chief Seattle’s message lives on in the ballet when it was shown to audiences across the country using dance and music as the medium.

Magic Musicals (2005)

Visual Statement entire Theatre Company was able to get involved in this performance, from our Children’s Theatre Company to the Adult Dance Company took part. This spectacular show which played to packed audiences was based on songs and dance routines from famous musicals and Disney Shows from years gone by, including hits like Steam Heat, and All that Jazz from Chorus Line, One Night Only, The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book and Aladdin. The beauty of these shows was that the audience joined in - which really brought the house down with really popular songs like the Jungle Books Bear Necessities!

St Thenue, Mother of St Mungo (2006)

This original ballet looks at the life and struggle of the mother of Glasgow’s patron Saint, from her upbringing as a princess of pagan king, and finding herself with child out of wedlock, was thrown over a cliff. After surviving the ordeal she gave birth to a baby boy who was then raised by a monastic order. This production was Visual Statement’s first performance at the Platform and was a huge success, devised, produced and directed by Danny Dobbie.

Robert & May Miller Magic Moments Christmas Show (2006)

After working years together Robert and May Miller decided to team up with Danny Dobbie to bring their hugely successful pub/club show performance to the Platform for the first time. Directed by Danny Dobbie and featuring Visual Statement’s Dance Company this Christmas show was full of magic moments and was hit with the audience.

Musical Revue (2007)

This electric production of Musical Revue produced, directed and choreograph by Danny Dobbie and featuring Visual Statement’s Children’s Company and Adult Company. Was a thrilling evening of musical variety entertainment which had the audience at the Platform Razzled and Dazzled with some unforgettable west end and Broadway showstoppers routines.

Bird Bell Fish Tree (2007)

This modern dance performance saw Visual Statement capitalise on their imagination, drive and creativity to bring a brand new, original work to Platform. This modern ballet brought life to “The armorial insignia of the City of Glasgow of 1647”.

This ballet featured Visual Statement’s Dance, Children’s Theatre Company and the United Kingdom Tae Kwon-Do team led by Miss Marion Sherlock and was a massive success.

Christmas is Cancelled! (2007)

Everyone loves Christmas — except for the evil Snow Queen. When she decides to cancel Christmas. It's a pretty desperate and sad time for all the children. Will the villainous Snow Queen win or can the children save Christmas. This was a warm, magical and very funny play, brimming over with holiday spirit. Devised by Visual Statement Children’s Theatre Company and directed by Helen Murray it was an evening full of drama, song and dance routines highlighting the talents of the Children’s Theatre Company.

Robert & May Miller Christmas Show (2007)

Following the success of their 2006 performance Robert and May Miller returned to the Platform with another Christmas Spectacular, produced, directed and choreographed by Danny Dobbie and featured Visual Statement Dance Company, this was a hugely successful production full of exuberant song and dance.

Movies & Shows (2008)

Movies and Shows is a glorious celebration of music and dance from some of the Hit West End Shows and Hollywood movies.

Summer Time Special (2008)

A Real Summer Blockbuster!

This fun-packed, feel good production celebrated the incredible range of talents of the children's company from singing, dancing to drama with additional performances from Visual Statement adult tap and hip-hop class members.

Fantasy Fairy Tales (2008)

Bringing together the impressive use of black light theatre tricks with puppetry, music, storytelling and movement ‘Fantasy Fairy Tales’ took audiences on a wondrous journey to a world of endless possibilities where famous fairy tales stories were brought to life.

This feel good production brought together the incredible range of talents of the students of Visual Statement Classes members from adult Tap to kids & teens Street dance.  The sell-out performance showcased the vast range of talent that Visual Statement have contribute to the local community over the last 30th years and was a celebration of what Visual Statement have achieved to mark their 30th Anniversary year

 

Summer Time Special 2 (2009)

This latest showcase performance was part of Visual Statement's 30th anniversay celebrations.

A sensational mixture of singing, dancing and drama Summer Time Special 2 showcased the talents of Visual Statement children’s theatre company. Bringing together the creative talents of Danny Dobbie with Pauline Friel and Stewart Miller as Musical Directors. 

Audiences were dazzled with a selection of music, dance and drama routines which highlighted the many amazing talents of Visual Statement Children’s Theatre Company.

East End performers celebrated their 30th Anniversary in style with this new dramatic and thought provoking modern dance production based on the mother of St Mungo patron Saint of Glasgow. Performed by the resident dance company saw Visual Statement in association with Platform capitalise on their imagination, drive and creativity to bring a brand new, original work to Platform. Celebrating there 30th anniversary. This original ballet looks at the life and struggle of the mother of Glasgow’s Patron Saint. Audiences were taken on a journey exploring St Thenue’s upbringing as a princess of a pagan king, to the dramatic repercussions of finding herself with child out of wedlock. After surviving her traumatic ordeal she gave birth to baby boy who was raised by a monastic order. An exciting, promenade production devised, produced and directed by Danny Dobbie.

St Mungo Festival 9th January to 16th January 2010

Celebrate the life of St Mungo Glasgow’s patron Saint

The life of St Kentigern – better known as St Mungo, patron saint of Glasgow, was celebrated during the city’s first official St Mungo Festival, 9-16 January, 2010.

The festival, which honours the Fife-born monk’s work to establish and expand the city of Glasgow around the sixth century, incorporates new and exciting events, exhibitions and religious services, including a performance of the Ballet of St Thenue at the newly renovated St Enoch Centre.

The story of the life and struggle of St Mungo’s mother St Thenue – later recognised as St Enoch – inspired the production by Visual Statement. Creative Director at Visual Statement, Danny Dobbie, said: “It’s was a great honour to be able to play such a key part in the city’s first St Mungo Festival. “We were very excited about this performance and felt we entertained the shoppers on the 15th and 16th of January.” Presenting the story of St Mungo’s mother and celebrating the birth of St Mungo through dance. Delivered by Visual Statement.

This production is devised, produced and directed by Danny Dobbie.

SELL-OUT SHOW STUDENTS SHOW OFF!

 

Visual Statement first performance of 2010 was a total success and sell out performance was a feel good production that brought together the incredible range of talents of the students of Visual Statement Classes members from adult Tap to kids & teens Street dance. What a show, what a night was all that could be heard after the final curtain fell on yet another sell-out performance by Visual Statement.  Class Act 2010 proved yet again that Visual Statement can put on a showcase that everyone loves.  Directed and produced by Danny Dobbie and featuring all of Visual Statements students.

 

AFTER POPULAR DEMAND CLASS ACT RETURNED ON THE 16 AND 17 MARCH 2010!

 

Visual Statement first performance of 2010 was such a hit that Danny decided to bring it back for two extra nights in March. This feel good production that brought together the incredible range of talents of the students of Visual Statement Classes members from adult Tap to kids & teens Street dance. What a show, what a night was all that could be heard after the final curtain fell on yet another two night sell-out performance by Visual Statement.  Class Act 2010 proved yet again that Visual Statement can put on a showcase that everyone loves.  Directed and produced by Danny Dobbie and featuring all of Visual Statements students.

 

ST THENUE (2010)

 

St Thenue

Performed by the resident dance company based at the new state-of-the-art Bridge in Easterhouse, this performance sees Visual Statement in association with Platform after popular demand bring back last year’s successful ballet St Thenue.  This unique work – St Thenue, a modern dance production looks at the life and struggle of the mother of Glasgow’s Patron Saint.

The ballet goes on a journey exploring St Thenue’s upbringing as a princess of a pagan king, to the dramatic repercussions of finding herself with child out of wedlock.  After surviving her traumatic ordeal she gave birth to baby boy who was raised by a monastic order.  An exciting, promenade production devised, produced and directed by Danny Dobbie.

Danny says, “This is a major performance by the dance company this year of “St.Thenue”, mother of Glasgow’s patron saint St.Mungo, after last year’s success,  I have added new elements to the show, which I am sure the audience will enjoy.

Danny says “When we researched the story of St.Thenue, it read like a modern day drama or soap opera, full of trauma, intrigue and hope. This type of storyline is ideal for us to produce and adapt into a dance works while highlighting the plights of our forefathers and will be part of the forthcoming “Rediscovery” event.   Not content with the performance taking place within the theatre space as is usual with performing companies, Visual Statement will be producing this works as a promenade performance with the entire first half of the ballet being performed in the Bridge library and foyer area.

DANCE WITH GLEE by DANNY DOBBIE Visual Statement latest sell-out performance saw them capitalise on their imagination, drive and creativity to bring a new production for 2011to a sell-out crowd at the Bridge, Platform last week.  A glitzy show of dance...a great night out, that didn't stop until you've had more than enough."  Visual Statements Dance with Glee was a glorious celebration of dance based on the US Hit TV Show Glee Soundtracks.  The sell out audience who turned up were entertained from start to finish in an evening full of energetic and amusing fun and frolics, along with being Razzled and Dazzled with a selection of the dance routines from Visual Statement dance students.  From the award-winning choreographer and creative director Danny Dobbie took the audience on a beautiful dazzle of invention and imagination of dance using the great sound tracks of Glee.“A great display of talent was on show”“ All of the kids were fab!” were just some of the quotes heard from the foyer at the Bridge after yet another sell-out show by Visual Statement.  Danny and all the staff at Visual statement would like to thank everyone who turned up and helped with the shows on both nights.
